In Astana, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas (KMG) Askat Khasenov held a meeting with the leadership of the American company LanzaJet — Chief Executive Officer Jimmy Samartzis and Vice President for Commercial Operations Stephan Tiong.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of KazFoodProducts LLP, Air Astana JSC, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The participants discussed in detail the key aspects of the project to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Kazakhstan, including the possibility of establishing an integrated structure for its joint implementation.
It should be noted that in September of this year, during a meeting in New York (USA), the companies approved the results of the feasibility study (FS) and signed a framework agreement. This document marked the start of the next design phase, during which all technical and economic solutions for the construction of the future plant will be developed.
The project envisions the creation of the first plant in Central Asia for the production of environmentally friendly aviation fuel using the American alcohol-to-jet technology. It also aims to strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a regional center for technological development and as a transit hub connecting transport, production, and investment value chains.
“The implementation of this project is of particular importance in the context of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s directive to transform Kazakhstan into an international aviation hub with advanced transit potential. LanzaJet is a global leader in SAF production technologies, and we express our readiness to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with the American company,” emphasized the head of KMG.
