LanzaJet has opened the world’s first Freedom Pines Fuels plant to produce clean aviation fuel (SAF) from ethanol (ethyl alcohol) in rural Georgia, USA. The cost of the plant is $200 million.
According to LanzaJet CEO Jimmy Samartzis, the environmentally friendly aviation fuel will be produced from US-grown corn. The facility will produce 10 million gallons of SAF and renewable diesel fuel per year.
“In 2020 – 2021, LanzaTech, together with Mitsui, conducted a technical and economic assessment on the basis of the Aksu and Aktobe ferroalloy plants, which showed the technical feasibility and commercial efficiency for ethanol production with a volume of 56,500 tons per year (Aksu) and 158,000 tons per year (Aktobe) with low cost. We expressed our interest in implementing a joint project with JSC NC KazMunayGas and KazMunayGas – Aero LLP during a recent visit to Kazakhstan,” says Jimmy Samartsissa, CEO of LanzaJet.
