From 21 to 23 November 2024, Kazakhstan hosted the ‘Kys-2024’ Republican Command and Staff Exercise, the purpose of which was to practice the prevention and elimination of emergency situations in the winter period. The exercise was held in city Kokshetau and covered a wide range of possible crisis situations, including accidents in the water supply, heating and power supply systems, as well as congestion on the roads.
Operational teams from central and local executive bodies, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, military units and other services participated in the exercise. Special attention was paid to evacuation, organisation of catering, medical and psychological assistance, and restoration of life support facilities.
KazMunayGas-Aero LLP performed the role of the Single Operator for the supply of oil products within the framework of the exercise, ensuring uninterrupted supply in crisis conditions. A total of 457 tactical and special exercises were conducted with the participation of 12,300 people and more than 4,000 units of equipment, including 5 aircraft.
Across the country, 846 warming centers for 49,000 victims and 32 field control points were deployed. The exercises confirmed the readiness of the civil protection system and all the services involved to deal with emergencies in winter, and also demonstrated the coherence of actions in conditions as close as possible to real life.
