By 2020, carbon dioxide emissions produced by civil aviation aircraft accounted for about 50 percent of all harmful emissions on the planet. It sounds implausible, but that’s exactly what expert estimates are. To minimize the negative impact of passenger flights on the environment, more than 190 member countries of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) have decided to compensate for the damage from aviation by reducing emissions in other sectors of the economy.
December 6 this year JSC NC KazMunayGas hosted a meeting between JSC NC KazMunayGas, KazMunayGas-Aero LLP and representatives of the international company Axens on the production of alternative sustainable fuel (Sustainable aviation fuel, SAF). SAF is a sustainable aviation fuel used in jet aircraft.
During the meeting, issues of the potential of Kazakhstan as a future SAF manufacturer were discussed.
